How to face Blue Monday

Waking up to face a Monday morning is a daunting thought to many people!

Did you know the third Monday of January has been identified statistically as the most terrible one of all?  Though Mondays have actually been happening, at least 52 times a year, for centuries.

Still, this Third Monday of January fills hearts with dread, fear and a sense of pointlessness. Hope and the after taste of celebrations have long since ended and the promise of the New Year has quickly faded; only to be replaced by the fear of facing the unknown for another year.

I was told that fear is the darkroom where we develop our doubts, where uncertainties dominate over faith and the flame of hope gives way to the smouldering memories of disappointment.  Depressing really and hardly surprising, if all these negative thoughts and attitudes are encapsulated in one day, that we feel overwhelmed by a perfect storm of destructive ooze.  Just writing about it makes me feel that I want to avoid it and it is not even Blue Monday yet!

Do not be afraid — I am with you! I am your God – let nothing terrify you! I will make you strong and help you; I will protect you and save you. Isaiah 41:10

It sounds to me God had every day covered that we would face when he gave us this promise.  He doesn’t disappear at the dawn of any day.

God created Mondays, blue and any other hue!  He made them for us to experience the unchangeable faithfulness, strength and provision He has promised.  So here’s a thought as you approach ‘the cliff edge’.  If God is with us we can face every day.
